Michael Ball founded Rock & Republic in 2002, primarily starting with premium denim jeans. Since Michael was an avid cyclist, he was already involved with uniform materials which are shared in denim as well. With this passion and knowledge the brand was born. Staying with his first passion, Rock & Republic sponsored a cycling team from 2007-2009 named Rock Racing. In 2010, Rock & Republic had to file Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection. VF Corporation was negotiating the sale of both the trademark and intellectual rights and ended up signing a long-term licensing deal with Kohl’s Corporation who then started to carry a budget version of the Rock & Republic denim jean as well as other apparel.
